Please join Michael and Đà Nẵng Film Forum for a screening of Bryan Singer's 1995 American crime thriller The Usual Suspects. A boat burns in the harbor at San Pedro, California, and twenty-seven men are dead. One of the two survivors is Roger "Verbal" Kint, a small-time con man with a bad leg and a habit of talking. US Customs agent Dave Kujan (Chazz Palminteri) has a few hours to get the truth out of him before Verbal's immunity deal sets him free. So Verbal starts from the beginning: five career criminals thrown together in a New York police lineup, a job planned in a holding cell, and a string of jobs that pulls them, one by one, toward a name every crook in the story is scared to say out loud. Keyser Söze. Christopher McQuarrie's script won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Most of the film plays as one long interrogation, cutting between a cramped police office and the story Verbal spins. The cast is a great run of '90s character actors: Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Pollak, Pete Postlethwaite, and a young Benicio del Toro mumbling his way through every line. It's a good one to watch with a room full of people. Film Club selections are screened in their original languages and shown with both English and Vietnamese subtitles. Discussion will follow the screening. Hosted by Michael. Screening is for people 18 and older. Event is free. Please buy things to support REALITY!
