Please join Michael and Đà Nẵng Film Forum for a screening of Dương Minh Chiến’s 2025 Việt Nam action comedy Chase for Amber (Truy Tìm Long Diên Hương). In the fishing village of An Hải, the most precious thing in the shrine is a lump of whale ambergris, kept for the sea spirit the fishermen pray to. Right before the village’s big festival, it goes missing. Tâm (Quang Tuấn), a fisherman who knows how to throw a punch, heads to the city to track down his younger brother Tuấn (Ma Ran Đô) and get the ambergris home before anyone notices it’s gone. Út Linh (Nguyên Thảo) and Hoàng (Hoàng Tóc Dài) come along, and before long the group is tangled up with a gang of hard-edged fishermen, led by Doãn Quốc Đam, who want the treasure just as badly. Dương Minh Chiến came up as an action director, and this is his first feature. It shows in the fights: the cast did the stunts themselves, brawling across boats, docks and beaches, and the choreography is clear, physical and often very funny. It was shot in a working fishing village, with more than forty locals on screen. Audiences here loved it, and it passed 100 billion đồng at the box office in under ten days. Film Club selections are screened in their original languages and shown with both English and Vietnamese subtitles. Discussion will follow the screening. Hosted by Michael. Screening is for people 18 and older. Event is free. Please buy things to support REALITY!
