Please join Michael and Đà Nẵng Film Forum for a screening of Brad Bird's 2007 American film Ratatouille. Remy is a rat with a palate far too refined for the garbage he is supposed to eat. He idolizes a famous Parisian chef, memorizes recipes off the television, and dreams of cooking real food, an ambition that goes over badly with his family and worse with every human who spots him near a kitchen. When he gets separated from his colony and washes into the sewers beneath Paris, he surfaces under the floor of his hero's own restaurant, where a clumsy new kitchen boy named Linguini is about to wreck a pot of soup. What the two of them work out from there, one of them hiding under a toque and steering by the hair, puts Remy closer to a working stove than a rat has any business getting. Brad Bird came to Pixar from The Iron Giant and made two of its sharpest films, this one and The Incredibles. Ratatouille takes food seriously: the sauces steam, the knife work is exact, and the animators clearly logged real hours in real kitchens. It also hands its villain, the gaunt food critic Anton Ego, one of the finest speeches ever written about what a critic is actually for. Film Club selections are screened in their original languages and shown with both English and Vietnamese subtitles. Discussion will follow the screening. Hosted by Michael. Event is free.
